我认为，“区域文化和饮食民俗是息息相关、互为依存的关系”。
比如四川的麻辣与四川所处的地理环境有关，四川是全国水运发达的省份之一，在境内形成了一个天然的水路运输网络。四川水路主要有金沙江段、长江段、沱江和嘉陵江水系水域。四川是全国的农产品供应大省，是国家最大的粮、油、猪生产基地之一。四川位于亚热带范围内，由于复杂的地形和不同季风环流的交替影响，气候复杂多样，东部盆地属亚热带湿润气候。所以利用花椒、辣椒、生姜、大蒜等香辛料来提味、祛湿，并且主食以米为主，面类杂粮类为辅。再比如山西的面食文化，山西省位于华北平原以西，黄土高原的东部，以在太行山之西而得名。省会太原，太原东、西、北三面环山，中、南部为河谷平原，整个地形北高南低呈簸箕形，属温带大陆性气候。主产小麦、黍米、高粱等农作物，所以该区域的饮食民俗与面食结下不解之缘，山西面食历史悠久，源远流长，面食种类繁多，一般家庭主妇就能用小麦粉、高粱面、豆面、荞面、莜面做成数十种的面食，如刀削面、拉面、圪培面、推窝窝、灌肠等。几乎没有涉及米的饮食项目。
